On the 19th April 2016, Osmaston C of E Primary School took part in the SSP High 5 Netball competition at Anthony Gell Secondary School. Osmaston Primary had reached this level of event by winning QEGS’ cluster High 5 Netball tournament in March. The competition consisted of schools from all around the Rural Derbyshire district who had competed in their local cluster tournament finals.
Osmaston started the tournament off playing Longstone A in the first game of the day. They got off to a great start by winning 4-1 against a tough opponent. Osmaston’s second game came a few matches into the tournament where they came up against Bamford. This game resulted in Osmaston confidently winning 7-0. Osmaston Primary then played Longstone B after a one game break. They along with their A team presented another tough challenge which Osmaston convincingly got through with a 6-1 win. Next for Osmaston was a local match against Brailsford where they last met in the final of the QEGS cluster competition. The resulted was a similar one to the last time the two schools met ending in an 8-0 victory for Osmaston. Then it was straight back on for Osmaston against a school making a rare appearance at SSP events, Bonsall. Osmaston showed another confident performance with their largest win of the tournament, 11-0.
Just over half way through the competition and Osmaston were currently unbeaten winning 5 games out of 5. Their next game was against Lea, the winners of the Highfield’s cluster tournament. This game ended in a 4-0 victory for Osmaston to keep their unbeaten run going. After that Osmaston came up against the other school from the Highfield’s cluster, All Saint’s. This saw Osmaston face their toughest challenge, where they did not perform to the best of their abilities. The match was back and forwards throughout and it resulted in Osmaston just clinching a 3-2 win. Osmaston’s penultimate fixture was against Carsington which saw another free scoring game for Osmaston finishing 7-0. Finally Osmaston faced their final opponents Eyam. This resulted in another 7-0 victory meaning that Osmaston had managed to stay unbeaten throughout the whole tournament and went on to win the SSP event.
They now move on to the County event which was the event that they made it to last year but unfortunately didn’t get any further.
