On 16th March 2016 Osmaston Primary School took 7 teams to QEGS to take part in a 5 a side netball tournament. There were 3 different tournaments going on at the same time. There was a Years 3 and 4 festival, a Years 5 and 6 festival and the Years 5 and 6 Competitive tournament.
Osmaston entered 3 teams in the Years 3 and 4 festival. This is where they play a number of matches without scoring the games and the aim of this is to gain experience in Netball. All 3 teams enjoyed their afternoon of Netball and continued to develop throughout the festival.
We entered 1 team into the Years 5 and 6 festival. This was slightly different to the Years 3 and 4 festival as this was scored but there was no aim to win the tournament. Osmaston’s first game was a battle right to the end with Osmaston getting a dramatic last minute equaliser. Their next game was a tough one against BiggHarts which saw Osmaston lose 6-0. They didn’t let their heads drop and managed to get 2 wins against Bradley A and Parkside C, both 1-0.
In the Years 5 and 6 competitive tournament Osmaston entered 3 teams lettered A, B and C. The B and C teams started off by playing each other in the first game of the competition. Osmaston C got off to a great start 2-1 win over the B team. In the next set of games all 3 teams had to play. The C team continued their great start by drawing against Clifton 0-0. The B team were unfortunate not to get anything out of their next game when they lost in a close match against Brailsford A 5-3. The A team had their first game against Parkside A and couldn’t get off to a better start by winning 7-0. After that round of games the A and B teams played. Osmaston B lost to Clifton who were starting to get some good results. The A team continued their good start by getting a 9-0 victory over Parkside B. Osmaston A played straight again beating Brailsford B 11-0. The next lot of games included Osamston B and C. This was Osmaston B’s last game. They finished off in a close match against Parwich which saw them just miss out on getting a point, losing 2-1. Osmaston C suffered their first defeat to Brailsford A 1-0. In the final set of games Osmaston A finished off by winning 13-0 which put them through to the final. Osmaston C had their final match against Parwich where they drew 0-0 which unfortunately was not enough to put them into the final but they played incredibly well throughout.
The final was between Osmaston A and Brailsford A. Brailsford started really well but couldn’t score early on, and Osamston went on to get the first goal. Osmaston continued to play well and the final result ended up in a 7-0 win!
Well done to everyone who took part!
