Maths

How is Maths taught?

Maths supports children to make sense of the world around them by developing their curiosity to calculate, reason and solve problems.

Our aim is for all of our children to understand how mathematics is essential to everyday life, critical to science, technology and engineering, and necessary for financial literacy and most forms of employment. A high-quality mathematics education therefore provides a foundation for understanding the world, the ability to reason mathematically, an appreciation of the beauty and power of mathematics, and a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject.

At Osmaston CofE (VC) C.E. Primary School Maths is taught as a stand alone subject as well as being woven through other subjects as an essential component of other curriculum areas. We follow the White Rose Scheme of learning and supporting materials as the overviews are designed to support a mastery approach to teaching and learning, in addition to supporting the aims and objectives of the National Curriculum.

We have a very large year group of Yr6 pupils who will be leaving us in the summer to go to secondary school. This will free up some places in other year groups for September 2024. Please telephone the Headteacher (01335 343140) to discuss and arrange to look around if you are interested in a place for your child.
